Cloud Cukkoo at Sofar Breda

In late 2016 I started working with Sofar Sounds Breda, an organisation which puts together bedroom concerts or small venues which are completely free to attend. All the artists are up and coming and everyone generally just has a great time.

For this shoot I had made it abundantly clear that I really wanted to bring this project to a whole new level.

​

Seeing as Sofar sounds is a voluntary organisation I had found it hard to keep the production level up with zero budget. Nontheless we managed to push this last prject together. 

​

It was lots of fun making it and I believe I learned alot myself. Not only about lighting and colors but also how many things can and will go wrong. 

​

At the beginning of the video we get an impression of the vibe in the room. We start with some abstract shots of a piano and the hands playing it. Within 30 seconds the song starts.

​

I wanted to experiment with a dolly for this shoot, so I asked production to create a passage way for me in between the crowd. This way I could dolly from left to right and get a depth feel in the video. I believe this idea was highly effective and added lots of depth to the final image.

​

As for the lighting we used the available LED's mounted at the venue. I wanted to create depth using hair lights. I made these lights red and the beauty lights white, so as to be able to see the performers faces.

​

One last trick I used was a canon 6D with a 135 f2 which I focused on the lead singer. Giving me lots of room to cut. Which in the I realised I really needed.
